Best solar installers in Albany & the Great Southern (2026)

Albany and the Great Southern hold one of the smallest solar markets in Western Australia, and the honest version of this page starts with that fact. Sixteen solar and electrical businesses across Albany, Denmark and the surrounding towns were assessed. Three of them hold New Energy Tech Consumer Code approval, the ACCC-authorised standard that has to come first for a licensed trade, and those three are ranked below. Every rating and review count was read from the operator’s own Google place page rather than a result card, and every address was checked against the national register.

Want this position?

Albany is a small field, which makes the top of this page unusually valuable. If you install solar in the Great Southern and hold code approval, a paid placement puts your business in front of every homeowner comparing quotes in Albany, Denmark and Mount Barker.

★★★★★4.733 reviews
Solar PVEnergy storageEV charging

The largest review record of any code-approved solar business in the Great Southern, and the only one whose Google listing, website and register entry all give the same Centennial Park address. Approved seller since 11 July 2025, covering solar PV, battery storage, EV charging and energy management, which is the widest scope on this page. The 0.0177 weighted margin over second place is narrow enough that both are worth a quote.

Solahart Albany & Great Southern

9 Minna Street, Centennial Park WA 6330
Representative image, not a photo of a specific listed business.
★★★★★4.719 reviews
Solar PVEnergy storageEV charging

By far the longest code history in the region: an approved seller since 11 April 2019, under the ACCC-authorised scheme that preceded the current code. Same rating as first place on a smaller sample, which is the entire reason for the gap. Its register entry also covers energy management, the category that matters if you intend to join a virtual power plant, which the state battery rebate requires.

Powley Electrical & Denmark Refrigeration

★★★★★5.06 reviews
Solar PVEnergy storageEV charging

Ranked on six reviews, which clears our floor but barely, so read the position as a credential result rather than a popularity one. Google files it as an electrician and the name says refrigeration, but its register entry is specifically solar PV, battery storage and EV charging, and the register address matches the Google pin exactly. It is the only approved seller based in Denmark with any review record at all.

How close this ranking really is

These three weighted scores land at 4.5496, 4.5319 and 4.5283. The gap between second and third is 0.0036, smaller than the measurement itself, so treat those two as level and choose on quotes and availability rather than on the order printed here. The gap between first and second, 0.0177, is real but slim.

All three carry the same underlying signal: a strong rating on a small sample. In a town of Albany’s size a solar installer doing good work may accumulate thirty reviews over several years, where a Perth operator collects that many in a quarter. Judge a Great Southern review count less harshly than a metropolitan one.

How we ranked them

Licensed trades get a credential check before a review check. For solar in Western Australia that ordering is not optional.

  • Code approval first. Every operator ranked here is a current New Energy Tech Consumer Code approved seller, verified by name on the national register in the same session this page was written. Businesses without an entry are not ranked, however good their reviews.
  • Licensing behind it. Grid-connected solar is electrical installing work, so it must be done under a WA electrical contractor’s licence, and an installer creating small-scale certificates must also hold Solar Accreditation Australia accreditation plus an unrestricted electrical licence in this state.
  • Locality proof. A street address on the register or a verified Google pin, coordinate-checked.
  • Then reviews. A weighted score that pulls small samples toward the category average, so twenty reviews cannot outrank two hundred on rating alone.
  • Nothing invented. Ratings and counts are read from live Google place pages. Where a business has no reviews or no verifiable address, we say so instead of guessing.

Sixteen businesses were assessed and 848 Google reviews analysed to produce a list of three.

Who did not make it, and why that matters here

In a field this small the exclusions are as informative as the ranking, so here they are in full. Albany’s biggest electrical review record by a distance belongs to DJL Electrical & Air Conditioning at 5.0 across 352 reviews. It is not on the approved seller register under any spelling we could find, with a control search passing in the same session, so it is not ranked. The same applies to ABA Security and Electrical 5.0 (102), Dekker Electrical 4.9 (76), Ganzer Electrical 5.0 (36) and Foundation Electrical 4.8 (16) — all real Albany businesses, none of them code approved.

Two approved sellers were cut for the opposite reason — they hold the credential but have no review record to weigh. Vino Electrical and Solar, registered at 23 Comet Corner in McKail since 20 August 2025, has no Google business listing we could locate; the two similarly named profiles that surface on a name search resolve to Pennsylvania and County Durham once you check the coordinates. DSR Energy, registered at 22 Blue Wren Lane near Denmark since 8 September 2025, has a live listing and a working website but zero reviews. Both are legitimate and both are worth a call; neither can be ranked on evidence that does not exist.

Also excluded: Solargain Albany at 3.0 across four reviews, below our 4.3 rating floor; Denmark Spark, an approved seller at 60 Inlet Drive with no findable Google listing; and The 12 Volt World, GSM Auto Electrical and Autospark Albany, which are auto and twelve-volt specialists rather than rooftop solar installers. Mount Barker returned three approved sellers on the register, all of them in Mount Barker South Australia — a same-name trap worth knowing about if you are checking credentials yourself.

The schemes that change what a system costs in 2026

We do not publish a price table for solar, because verified Western Australian pricing is not something we can source and inventing one would be worse than omitting it. What we can give you is the current state of the schemes that move the number, each checked against the regulator’s own page on 14 September 2026.

SchemeWho runs itWhat it changes for an Albany household
WA Residential Battery SchemePlenti, scheme administratorsUp to $1,300 off a battery for Synergy customers, which is the figure that applies here: Albany and Denmark sit on the South West Interconnected System, so the $3,800 Horizon Power rate does not apply. Your approved vendor claims it for you. Participation in a virtual power plant is a condition, and batteries installed before 1 July 2025 are not eligible.
Cheaper Home Batteries ProgramAustralian GovernmentStacks with the state rebate. The state’s worked example puts a 10 kWh battery at $1,300 from WA rising to about $5,000 combined, with larger batteries attracting more. The page warns federal changes may move that total.
Small-scale certificates (STCs)Clean Energy RegulatorDiscounts the upfront price of panels. Only an installer accredited by Solar Accreditation Australia, holding an unrestricted WA electrical licence, can create them.
Distributed Energy Buyback SchemeSynergy, policy by Energy Policy WAPays for exported energy on a time-of-export basis designed to encourage using your own generation at midday, and it explicitly rewards west-facing panels that produce later in the day. We do not print cent rates here because the published schedule carries a date stamp that goes stale; ask your installer for Synergy’s current figures.
1 May 2026 connection rulesEnergy Policy WAApplies to new or upgraded systems on the SWIS, and adding a battery counts as an upgrade. Standard connections now allow up to 30 kVA of aggregate capacity, inverters must comply with AS/NZS 4777.2 Australian Region B at installation, and capability testing happens on the day.

One consequence worth planning around: if you want to be paid for exports under the buyback scheme, your system needs remote disconnect and reconnect capability, with your retailer nominating the technical solution. If you decline that, or your site cannot hold a stable internet connection — not a hypothetical in parts of the Great Southern — the system is set to a standard 1.5 kW export limit instead and the remote disconnection requirements fall away. Sites already installed under the battery scheme with a fixed 1.5 kW limit do not need revisiting.

What to ask before you sign

  • Confirm the code approval yourself on the national register, and confirm the branch address. It takes a minute and it is the single strongest filter available to you.
  • Ask who physically does the install and where they travel from. A Perth company quoting Albany may be subcontracting.
  • Get the callout arrangement in writing. Not the warranty document — the actual response commitment for year seven.
  • Ask whether the quote assumes the battery rebate, and whether the virtual power plant condition is explained. That participation requirement is easy to gloss over at quote stage.
  • Ask about export limiting and connectivity at your address before the panels are ordered. It changes what the system can earn.

Questions

Only three installers? Is that really the whole Albany market?

It is the whole of the code-approved Albany market, which is the pool this page ranks from. Sixteen solar and electrical businesses were assessed across Albany, Denmark and the surrounding towns, and only five hold New Energy Tech Consumer Code approval. Of those five, two have no Google reviews at all, leaving three that can be ranked on evidence. We could have padded the list by dropping the credential filter or by widening the area until the count reached five, and both would have made the page less useful. The honest answer is that the Great Southern is a small market.

Why is a Denmark business on an Albany list?

Because the Great Southern is treated as one service region here, and because Denmark sits inside the realistic travel radius for a solar crew working out of Albany or vice versa. Powley Electrical is ranked on its own Denmark address, verified on the register and on Google, not borrowed from Albany. If you are in Albany itself, the two Centennial Park operators above it are closer to you; if you are in Denmark or Walpole, the third entry is your local.

DJL Electrical has hundreds of reviews. Why isn’t it first?

Because this page ranks code-approved solar retailers, and DJL Electrical & Air Conditioning does not appear on the New Energy Tech Consumer Code register. That is a statement about one specific list, not about the quality of its work — its 5.0 rating across 352 reviews is the strongest record of any electrical business in Albany. Code approval is voluntary, and plenty of competent contractors choose not to join. If you are comfortable doing your own licensing checks, an unlisted electrician is a perfectly reasonable person to ask for a quote.

Should I use a Perth company instead?

It is a genuine trade-off rather than an obvious answer. Perth approved sellers are often larger, hold more stock and can sometimes quote lower on hardware. What they cannot easily do is put a technician on your roof in year seven for a fault that takes two hours to diagnose, when the drive is four and a half hours each way. If you do take a Perth quote, get the Great Southern callout arrangement in writing before you sign, and ask specifically who attends and what the travel charge is.

Is the $1,300 battery rebate the right figure for Albany?

Yes, provided you are a Synergy customer. The WA Residential Battery Scheme pays up to $1,300 for Synergy customers and up to $3,800 for Horizon Power customers, and the split follows which grid you are on. Albany and Denmark are both on the South West Interconnected System, the Synergy network, so $1,300 is the applicable cap. The larger Horizon figure applies to places like Broome, Karratha and Esperance. Your approved vendor claims the rebate on your behalf; you do not apply for it yourself.

How often is this page rechecked?

Ratings, review counts and register entries are re-read each time the page is revised, and the date at the foot of the page is the last time that happened. In a market this small a single new approved seller changes the ranking, so the two credentialed operators currently sitting outside it — Vino Electrical and Solar, and DSR Energy — will move onto the list as soon as they accumulate a review record. If you run a Great Southern solar business and think this page has you wrong, we would rather hear about it than leave it wrong.
