Six of them also carry a Google record strong enough to rank. We run the credential check before the star rating: every operator below appears by name on the national NETCC Approved Seller register, and the register’s own address places them in this region. Two businesses with bigger review counts than most of the list were cut, and we say exactly why further down.

Green Wave Solar joined the NETCC register on 22 June 2025 covering solar PV, EV charging and energy storage in Western Australia, and the register gives its head office as 1 to 9 Burler Drive, Vasse, which matches the Burler Drive address on its Google listing. Two independent sources agreeing on the street is the strongest locality proof this trade offers, and unlike most of the Perth operators we assess, this is a light industrial unit rather than an office suite. MaxSolar keeps a 5.0 rating across 117 reviews, and it is one of the few businesses on any of our pages whose address came from the register rather than from Google. Its Google listing publishes a phone number and a website but no street address, which would normally rule it out. The NETCC register, however, lists it from 24 May 2025 with a head office at 21 Carriage Terrace, Vasse, and its own website is titled for Vasse, Busselton and Dunsborough and says the business has operated in Western Australia since 2012. That is enough independent evidence to place it here. It also explains why MaxSolar keeps appearing in Perth searches: it sells into the metro area from a South West base. Weighted score 4.770.

It holds 5.0 across 107 reviews and has been a NETCC approved seller since 25 June 2025 for solar PV, EV charging and energy storage, with the register address on Ostler Drive matching its Google listing. One caveat we want to be straight about: Google categorises this business as an air conditioning contractor, and the reviews plainly cover both trades, so the star rating is not purely evidence about solar work. We include it because the code approval is specifically for solar, storage and EV charging, and cutting a credentialed local operator on a Google category label has burned us before. Weighted score 4.759.

There is a real gap here: position three finishes 0.155 clear of position four, which is the widest break in this table and the reason the top three sit apart. Solargain is the only national brand on this page and the only operator with a code history running back to February 2018, under the ACCC authorised scheme that preceded the current one. The register lists Busselton as a distinct Western Australian branch alongside a national head office in Malaga, and the 53 reviews attach to the Ponsford Chase listing rather than to the parent, so the local record is the local branch’s own. Weighted score 4.604.

It is one of two approved sellers on the same short Busselton street, which tells you something about where the town’s electrical trade clusters. Weighted score 4.580.

Southwest Hybrid Energy holds 5.0 from 14 reviews and became a NETCC approved seller on 1 August 2025 for solar PV, EV charging and energy storage. Its Google listing gives 31 Wright Street, Busselton while the register records West Busselton, both inside this cluster, so the two corroborate rather than conflict. Fourteen reviews clears our floor but only just, and we would rather say that plainly than let a perfect star average imply more certainty than the evidence supports. Weighted score 4.561.

We rank on a weighted score rather than a raw star average, because a 5.0 from fourteen reviews is not the same evidence as a 4.8 from fifty three. The formula pulls every rating towards 4.5 in proportion to how thin the evidence behind it is, so volume has to be earned before it moves the order. The credential test runs before the score. Installing grid connected solar in Western Australia is electrical work: the Clean Energy Regulator requires accreditation from Solar Accreditation Australia plus an unrestricted electrical licence in the state of installation before small scale technology certificates can be created, and WA’s Electricity (Licensing) Regulations 1991 require electrical work to be done by a licence holder, with contractors carrying current civil liability insurance.
Individual electrical licence numbers cannot be searched by business name in Western Australia, so we use the New Energy Tech Consumer Code Approved Seller register instead. It is ACCC authorised, searchable by name, and it publishes head office and branch street addresses, which doubles as independent locality proof. We search it by town as well as by company name, because registered names often differ from trading names, and we run a control search on a business known to be listed before accepting any blank result as a real absence. In a region this small that matters: a single missed entry would change the order of the whole page.
Who we cut, and why
Seventeen businesses came up across Busselton, Vasse and Dunsborough and six made the list. The region has ten code approved sellers in total, which is a high count for its population, but four of them either have too few reviews to judge or none at all. Here is everyone we left out.
- NIXON, 5.0 from 172 reviews is the largest review record anywhere in this search and it would have taken second place on the numbers. It is a NETCC approved seller, listed since 12 August 2025 as Nixon Solar and Energy, but the register gives its head office as Dodson Road, Glen Iris, which is Bunbury, while its Google listing is a Busselton presence on Strelly Street. Where the national register and the map pin disagree we follow the register, so Nixon belongs on a Bunbury page rather than this one. We are holding it for that page rather than quietly dropping it.
- Lynco Energy, 5.0 from 6 reviews, Sunningdale Road, Dunsborough, approved 22 April 2026, weighted 4.528. Save Energy, 5.0 from 2 reviews, Commonage Road, Dunsborough, approved 12 August 2025, weighted 4.510, and the only operator in the region whose register entry covers power purchase agreements, energy management and microgrids. Solar Power Solutions Southwest, 4.5 from 24 reviews, Artisan Street, Busselton, approved 15 September 2025, weighted 4.500. All three are genuine, credentialed and local, and all three simply score below the six above. Lynco is first name in if any of them drops out.
- Clean Energy South West, Strelly Street, Busselton, is a NETCC approved seller from 2 November 2025 but has no Google reviews at all yet, so there is nothing for us to weigh. SunWise Energy Busselton is in the same position. Both are worth a look if you are collecting quotes, we simply cannot rank a business on no evidence.
- Zenko Energy, 5.0 from 15 reviews returned no match on the NETCC register under that name, with a control search passing in the same session. Cut on the credential gate. Powertex Energy Solutions, 3.8 from 24 reviews sits below our 4.3 rating floor.
- Wrong trade or wrong product. Outech Off Grid Caravan Power Systems, 5.0 from 107 reviews, builds off grid power for caravans and vehicles rather than rooftop systems. A.C. Forster and Son, 4.5 from 49 reviews, is a plumbing business by its own Google category. West Australian Alternative Energy surfaced on a Busselton register search but its head office is in Cockburn, well outside this region.
One pattern worth naming: this is the first region we have covered where the constraint is review volume rather than credentials. In Perth the register cuts operators with strong records. Here the register is generous and the reviews are thin, because the customer base is smaller. Treat a modest review count in the South West less harshly than you would in the metro area.
The schemes that change what a system costs in 2026
We do not publish a price table for solar, because we cannot verify current Western Australian installed prices to the standard we hold ourselves to on every other trade, and an invented range is worse than none. The connectivity requirement is worth a second look in the Capes, where a rural block can struggle to hold a reliable internet connection. The rules allow for that: if you would rather not join an export product, or the site cannot maintain a stable connection, you can skip the ongoing connectivity requirement and run with a standard 1.5 kW export limit instead, and those systems are not subject to the remote disconnection rules. Get whichever path you are on in writing, because the difference is worth real money across ten years. We deliberately do not print cent per kilowatt hour buyback rates here, because the published schedules carry a date stamp and go stale faster than we re-check.
Before you sign anything
- Ask for the Solar Accreditation Australia number of the person who will physically be on your roof, not the salesperson and not the company. The Clean Energy Regulator also requires that installer to hold an unrestricted WA electrical licence.
- Check the business on the NETCC Approved Seller register yourself before you pay a deposit. It is free, searchable by name, and it shows the signatory date and the registered address. In this region it will also tell you whether a Busselton shopfront is run from Busselton or from Bunbury.
- Ask whether the quote assumes you will join a virtual power plant. The WA battery rebate makes that a condition, so a quote that includes the rebate has already committed you to something.
- Ask about travel and callback. A Perth based installer will quote the Capes, and some quote keenly, but a warranty callback three years from now is a different proposition from Vasse than it is from Malaga.
- Do not read a small review count as a bad sign here. A South West installer with twenty reviews may have done as much local work as a metro business with two hundred. Ask for recent addresses in your own town instead.

Do I need a licensed electrician to install solar panels in Busselton?
Yes. Installing a grid connected rooftop system is electrical installing work, and Western Australia’s Electricity (Licensing) Regulations 1991 require electrical work to be carried out by a licence holder. A licensed electrical contractor must hold, or employ someone who holds, a current WA electrician’s licence, and must carry current civil liability insurance. Separately, the Clean Energy Regulator requires the installer to be accredited by Solar Accreditation Australia and to hold an unrestricted electrical licence in the state of installation before small scale technology certificates can be created for your system.
How much is the WA battery rebate in 2026?
The WA Residential Battery Scheme is open and offers up to 1,300 dollars for Synergy customers and 3,800 dollars for Horizon Power customers. Most of the Capes is on the south west grid and therefore a Synergy area. Your approved vendor applies for the rebate on your behalf. The scheme page’s worked example shows a 10 kWh battery reaching about 5,000 dollars once the federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program is added, with larger batteries receiving more, and it notes changes to the federal program may move that total. Participation in a virtual power plant is a condition, and batteries installed before 1 July 2025 are not eligible.
What changed for WA solar on 1 May 2026?
New or upgraded solar and battery systems on the south west grid now have to support modern grid standards under a Western Power procedure. The rules apply to standard small user facilities, meaning connections below 1,000 volts with aggregate distributed energy capacity of 30 kVA or less, up from the previous 5 kVA limit, on single or three phase. Systems must comply with AS slash NZS 4777.2 using Australian Region B settings at installation and complete installation capability testing. Existing systems that are not being touched are unaffected, but adding a battery counts as an upgrade.
Should I use a Perth installer or a local one in the South West?
Both are legitimate and Perth businesses do quote this region. The practical difference is what happens after the install. A warranty callback, a faulty inverter or a monitoring problem is a two hour drive for a metro crew and a short trip for a Vasse or Busselton one, and that shows up in how quickly small problems get fixed. Whichever you choose, ask who physically performs a warranty callback and where they are based, and get the answer in writing rather than on the phone.
Why does a business with 172 reviews not appear in your top six?
Because our credential and locality checks run before the star rating. Nixon carries the biggest review record in this search and is a properly approved seller, but the national register puts its head office in Glen Iris near Bunbury rather than in the Capes. When the register and the Google pin disagree about where a business is based, we follow the register, because it is an ACCC authorised source that the business itself maintains. It will be ranked on a Bunbury page instead. We would rather explain a decision like that than have you wonder why an obvious name is missing.
