Best solar installers in Bunbury, Picton & Dalyellup (2026)

Bunbury is the largest solar market in Western Australia outside Perth, and it is also the one where the credential check does the most work. Every business ranked below appears on the New Energy Tech Consumer Code register of approved sellers, the ACCC authorised code administered by the Clean Energy Council, and every one has a street address in the Bunbury region that the register and Google agree on. We assessed twenty businesses, read 2,124 Google reviews and searched the register on every name before ranking anyone. Two operators with strong review records are missing because the register has no entry for them. We name them further down rather than quietly leaving them out.

Solar PVEnergy storageEV charging

A 748 review record at 4.9 stars is the largest of any solar business in the South West and one of the largest in this trade anywhere in Western Australia, and it is the reason NIXON leads on volume. Its registered head office at 11 Dodson Road, Glen Iris is the same address Google shows for the Bunbury branch, so locality is confirmed twice. The register covers solar PV, battery storage and EV charging. One caveat worth stating plainly: NIXON also runs a separate Busselton profile with its own reviews, and we do not add the two records together. This page ranks the Bunbury profile on the Bunbury profile alone.

โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…5.0231 reviews
Solar PVEnergy storageEV charging

A perfect 5.0 across 231 reviews is the strongest rating and volume combination on this page, and the weighted gap between Austral and NIXON is 0.0039, which is smaller than the precision of the method itself. Treat the top two as level and choose between them on quotes and availability, not on the order printed here. Austral is registered at 12a Sherlock Way in the Davenport industrial area, the same address Google shows, and the register covers solar PV, battery storage and EV charging.

โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…5.0116 reviews
Solar PVEnergy storageEV charging

Google files Solartech under solar energy equipment, a category label that has misled us before in this trade, so we checked the register entry rather than the label. It covers solar PV, battery storage and EV charging, and the registered head office at Lot 4 Dryandra Court, Picton matches the Google pin. A 5.0 across 116 reviews in a town of this size is a deep record. Positions three and four are separated by 0.0055, close enough that the order between them carries very little information.

VDW Electrical

Unit 1, 15 Gibbons Road, Davenport 6230 ยท NETCC approved since 2 September 2025
โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…4.9192 reviews
Solar PVEnergy storageEV charging

The second largest review record on the page, at 4.9 across 192 reviews, and the registered head office at Unit 1, 15 Gibbons Road matches the Google pin exactly. VDW trades as a general electrical contractor and Google files it that way, which is why it does not lead solar searches, but its register entry is specifically for solar PV, battery storage and EV charging. For a household adding a battery to an existing system, an electrical contractor that also holds the code approval is a sensible combination.

8 Maxted Street, Davenport 6230 ยท NETCC approved since 6 November 2025

Solar PVEnergy storageEnergy management

The only operator on this page whose register entry covers energy management, which matters more than it sounds: joining a virtual power plant is a condition of the WA Residential Battery Scheme, and energy management is the category that work sits under. Google files the business as a solar hot water specialist, a legacy of the Solahart brand, but the register entry covers solar PV and battery storage as well. Registered address matches the Google pin at 8 Maxted Street, Davenport.

The Google profile publishes no street address, so the address above comes from the NETCC register, and the company website describes an electrical and solar business serving Bunbury and the South West. Two independent sources naming the same area is stronger evidence than a map pin on its own. West Surge is the only business on this page whose register entry lists virtual power plants, alongside solar PV, battery storage, EV charging and energy management. If a VPP enrolment is what stands between you and the battery rebate, start here.

How we ranked these six

Solar is a licensed trade, so the credential check runs before the review score. In Western Australia the electrical licence register can only be searched by licence number, and no solar retailer publishes its number, so the workable check is the New Energy Tech Consumer Code register of approved sellers, which is name searchable, ACCC authorised and publishes head office and branch street addresses. Only businesses on that register were eligible for a place here.

Businesses that cleared that gate were then scored on a weighted average that balances rating against review volume, so a 5.0 from nine customers does not outrank a 4.9 from seven hundred. We set a floor of 4.3 stars and a minimum of three genuine local operators before a cluster is worth publishing at all. We cut the list below sixth place at a gap of 0.0300, which is six times the precision of the method, and we never widen a district or merge in a neighbouring town to pad a page out to a round number.

Who we cut, and why

Naming the businesses that did not make the list is the most useful part of this page. Some were cut on the credential gate despite better review records than operators we ranked, and you are entitled to know that so you can make your own call.

  • Broad Electrical and Air Conditioning, 4.9 from 202 reviews at 3 Wimbridge Road, Picton. A real local address and the third largest review record in the region, and it would have placed fourth on the numbers. We found no entry on the NETCC register under that name, with a control search passing in the same session. Cut on the credential gate, and first on our list to re-check next cycle.
  • Magic Electrical Services, 4.8 from 30 reviews. The register lists Magic Solar and Battery at 30 Dunbarton Street, Withers, approved 23 July 2025, and Google resolves that address to this profile, but the trading names differ and the Google listing publishes no address of its own. It also scores below the six. Cut on score, with the identity question stated rather than assumed away.
  • WA Solar Clean and Air Southwest, 5.0 from 21 reviews at 6 Palm Street, Bunbury, and Positive Off-Grid Solutions, 4.8 from 19 reviews. Neither appears on the register. The first is filed by Google as a cleaning business rather than an installer, which is a different trade again.
  • NIXON at 102 Strelly Street, Busselton, 5.0 from 172 reviews. A separate Google profile with its own review record, covered on our Busselton page. We rank the Bunbury profile here on its own numbers and never add two listings together, because the combined figure would be one nobody has actually earned.
  • Perth and Capes operators padding the search results. Australis Solar, Solar Imperium, Easy Solar, Solar WA and Solar Power Solutions Southwest all surfaced in Bunbury searches from bases in Osborne Park, Clarkson, Welshpool, Kewdale and Busselton. Real businesses, wrong region for this page.

One more pattern worth noting. Austral, VDW and Solahart South West all sit in Davenport, the industrial pocket south east of the Bunbury CBD, and between them they hold 475 of the reviews on this page. If you are collecting quotes, that is one short drive.

The schemes that change what a system costs in 2026

We do not publish a price table for solar, because we cannot verify installed prices in the Bunbury region and inventing a range would be worse than useless. What we can verify is the support available, which moves the net figure far more than a few hundred dollars of quote variation. Every line below was re-checked against the regulator on 12 September 2026.

SchemeWho runs itWhat it changes for you
WA Residential Battery SchemeEnergy Policy WA, administered by PlentiUp to 1,300 dollars for Synergy customers and 3,800 dollars for Horizon Power customers. Bunbury is a Synergy area. Your approved vendor claims it on your behalf, joining a virtual power plant is a condition, and batteries installed before 1 July 2025 are not eligible for the rebate or the loan.
Cheaper Home Batteries ProgramAustralian GovernmentStacks on top of the state rebate. The WA scheme page worked example puts a 10 kWh battery at about 5,000 dollars of combined support, with larger batteries receiving more. The page itself warns that federal changes may move that total.
Small scale technology certificatesClean Energy RegulatorCuts the up front price of a rooftop system. Only installers accredited by Solar Accreditation Australia, who also hold an unrestricted electrical licence in the state of installation, can create them.
New grid requirements from 1 May 2026Energy Policy WA and Western PowerNew or upgraded systems on the south west grid must meet the current requirements, covering connections below 1,000 volts with 30 kVA or less of aggregate distributed energy, compliance with the Australian Region B settings of AS/NZS 4777.2 at installation, and capability testing on the day. Adding a battery counts as an upgrade.
Distributed Energy Buyback SchemeEnergy Policy WA and your retailerPays for electricity exported from panels, batteries and electric vehicles. The pricing structure rewards using your own generation at midday and exporting later in the day, which is why west facing panels are worth asking about.

Two things follow from that table for a Bunbury household. The first is that the battery rebate is worth more than the difference between most quotes, so the question of whether your installer is an approved vendor under the scheme is worth asking before you compare prices at all. The second is that the export rules changed in May, and a system designed for the old arrangement is not the same system as one designed for the current one. Ask any installer to put the export limit and the connection arrangement in writing on the quote, not just the panel and inverter brands.

Before you sign anything

  • Ask who is doing the electrical work and whether they hold an unrestricted WA electrical licence. Accreditation and licensing are separate requirements and a retailer may subcontract both.
  • Check the installer against the NETCC approved seller register yourself. It takes a minute, it is free, and it is the same check we ran.
  • Get the export limit in writing. Whether your system is set to a standard export limit or a remotely managed connection changes what you earn back.
  • Confirm the battery rebate path before you pay a deposit. The approved vendor claims it for you, so if your installer is not an approved vendor the rebate is not simply a form you can lodge later.
  • Ask what happens in year six. Warranty is only as good as the business behind it, and a local address you can drive to is worth something a call centre is not.

Questions

Do I need a licensed electrician to install solar panels in Bunbury?

Yes. Installing a grid connected solar system is electrical installing work, and under the Western Australian electricity licensing regulations it must be carried out by a licence holder. A contractor licence additionally requires the holder or an employee to hold a current WA electrician licence and the business to hold current civil liability insurance. Separately, the Clean Energy Regulator requires an installer to be accredited by Solar Accreditation Australia, and to hold an unrestricted electrical licence in the state of installation, before small scale technology certificates can be created for your system.

How much is the WA battery rebate in 2026?

The WA Residential Battery Scheme offers up to 1,300 dollars for Synergy customers and 3,800 dollars for Horizon Power customers. Bunbury is on the south west grid and is a Synergy area, so the 1,300 dollar figure is the relevant one. The state page publishes a worked example putting a 10 kWh battery at around 5,000 dollars once the federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program is combined with it, with larger batteries receiving more. Participation in a virtual power plant is a condition of the scheme, batteries installed before 1 July 2025 are not eligible, and your approved vendor claims the rebate on your behalf.

What changed for WA solar on 1 May 2026?

New or upgraded solar and battery systems connecting to the south west grid, which includes Bunbury, have to meet updated technical requirements. A standard small user facility is defined as a connection below 1,000 volts with 30 kVA or less of aggregate distributed energy, single or three phase, and inverters must comply with the Australian Region B settings of AS/NZS 4777.2 at installation, with capability testing carried out on the day. Adding a battery to an existing system counts as an upgrade and brings the system into scope. An existing system you do not touch is unaffected.

Why is a Bunbury business with 202 reviews not in your top six?

Broad Electrical and Air Conditioning, at 3 Wimbridge Road in Picton, holds 4.9 stars from 202 reviews and would have placed fourth on the numbers alone. We could not find it on the New Energy Tech Consumer Code register under that name, and a control search in the same session confirmed the register was responding correctly. That is not an accusation of anything. The code is voluntary, and plenty of competent installers are not signatories. It is simply the line we drew for this page, and we would rather tell you where the line sits than pretend the business does not exist.

Is the NIXON listing here the same business as the one in Busselton?

Same company, two Google profiles. The Bunbury profile at 11 Dodson Road carries 748 reviews and the Busselton profile at 102 Strelly Street carries 172, and each has been reviewed by the customers of that branch. We rank the Bunbury profile on this page and the Busselton profile is covered on our Busselton page. We do not add the two figures together, because the combined number would describe a business nobody has actually reviewed. The registered head office for the company is the Glen Iris address, which is why the credential check resolves to Bunbury.
