- No written quote with a per-square-metre rate and a total. Concreting is easy to measure. If they won’t put the area, the rate and the total in writing, you can’t compare quotes or hold them to a price.
- Cash only, no receipt. No paper trail means no warranty and no comeback if the slab cracks or lifts. You’re carrying all the risk.
- Big deposit up front. A modest deposit to lock in concrete and a crew is normal. Being asked for half or more before a peg goes in the ground is not.
- No mention of base prep, reinforcement or joints. A driveway or slab is only as good as the compacted base, the steel mesh or bar in it, and the control joints that stop random cracking. If none of that comes up, they’re cutting corners you’ll pay for later.
