- Wrong timber or fixings for the water. Right on the ocean and the estuary, salt eats the wrong choices. Treated pine and plain steel screws on a coastal or canal deck, or on a jetty or pontoon, will fail early. Look for marine-grade hardwood or composite and stainless or hot-dip galvanised fixings.
- No structural sign-off on over-water work. Jetties, pontoons and canal boardwalks carry loads over water and often need engineering and approvals. If there’s no mention of that on a waterway job, you’re carrying the risk.
