Quads and off-road bikes are not serviced like a road bike

Machines that spend their life in sand, dust and water run to a different maintenance rhythm: air filters and oil come around far faster than the hours on the clock suggest, and bearings, boots and seals are where neglect shows up first. If a machine has been in salt water or has spent a season in the dunes, say so when you book, because it changes what gets checked.

Questions worth asking

• Ask about parts availability before committing to a timeline. On older or grey-import machines the wait for a part is usually longer than the work itself.
• Get the service schedule in writing — what is inspected, what is replaced, and what is charged separately.
• Mention how and where the machine is ridden. Farm work, dunes and trail use each wear different things.
• Ask about a pre-season check rather than a breakdown repair. It is invariably the cheaper of the two.
